Q: How do I know that I need a new mattress?

A: Generally your body will tell you when you need a new mattress the 3 key things are comfort, support and space but you may find you wake up more than you previously did, you are sore and generally do not sleep well. You may find general signs of wear and tear- this is the time to start considering a new mattress. Bear in mind that Sleep is a very important activity and key to a healthy lifestyle.

Q: How long does a mattress last?

A: There are a range of factors that determine how long a mattress lasts not least manufacturer quality to how it was used and how it was cared for. It is important that your mattress is judged on how comfortable and supportive it is for both you and your partner throughout your changing life and not on its age. Our mattresses are manufactured to a very high standard and come with a 5 year guarantee.

Q: Is it true that the bigger the better?

A: Yes when sleeping this is true, the more room you and your partner have in bed while asleep the better. Disturbance is listed as one of the most common complaints for not being able to sleep well. Real luxury and great sleep normally start off with a big bed and quality mattress

Q:Who is TEMCo?

A: TEMCo stands for The English Mattress Company

Q: Why haven`t I seen a TEMCo mattress in a store?

A: Our mattresses are made only to order and therefore our products are only available from the TEMCo website this saves you money as we cut out the middle men.

Q: Are the mattresses really made to order?

A: Yes, All our mattresses are individually made to order and can be tailored in terms of size, comfort level to ensure a customised and personalised product. Our factory only starts the manufacturing process when an order is placed and paid for. No mattresses are held in stock.

Q: What can I have written on the label

A: The personalised label is the finishing touch on your mattress and is unique to our brand and makes it individual to you. You can have anything written on it up to 35 characters but most people choose their Christian names.

Q: Mattress tension

A: You can choose the tension you would like on your mattress, firm or medium tensions are the most common. Soft is available but is not often requested.

Q: What are your standard sizes?

A: There are a variety of descriptions for sizes, including Metric and approximate Imperial versions. The following table identifies all the standard UK sizes (other International sizes can easily be made) - the first measurement is the width (W) and the second the length (L). Remember TEMCo also specialise in made-to-measure, customised sizes. Single: 90cm x 190cm / 3'" x 6'3" Double: 135cm x 190cm / 4'6" x 6'3" King Size: 150cm x 200cm / 5'" x 6'6" Super King Size: 180cm x 200cm / 6'0" x 6'6" Note: Disturbance by your partner is one of the most common causes cited for a lack of sleep. Real luxury and great sleep normally start off with a big bed.

Q: Do you make large and long mattress - custom sizes or custom shapes?

A: TEMCo manufacturers bespoke, made-to-measure mattresses and are able to make larger and longer customised or indeed a non-standard size or shape of mattress to fit an existing bed frame. We can manufactured special shaped mattresses with cut-out corners for a four poster bed frame, to curved beds or even tapered V beds to fit into a boats berth –– please call our sales team and they will be able to advise on this.

Q: Can I purchase a new mattress to use on an existing divan base?

A: You buy a divan base and mattress together because the two are designed and manufactured to complement one another in terms of support. Your mattress may show visible signs of wear and tear but the base will have had equal pressure and strain - it just doesn't show quite so clearly. Your guarantee may be compromised if the divan base is unsuitable to support the mattress.

Q: My mattress appears lower in height after my first night’s sleep?

A: Please do not be concerned, a TEMCo mattress contains a high volume of quality filling, the area you sleep on, where weight is applied will appear lower than the surrounding area this is called settlement and is normal. To speed up the settlement of the mattress in the centre it is advisable to rotate the mattress over as frequently as possible, and wherever possible use the centre of the mattress this will help ensure an even settlement of the fillings.

Q: There is an aroma when I took the mattress out of its bag – what is it?

A: On delivery you may notice that your new mattress has an aroma of 'newness'; this is normal and will soon fade. After its removal from the packaging, please leave your mattress uncovered in a well-ventilated room for a few hours to allow any condensation to escape. Air your mattress regularly to allow any naturally absorbed perspiration to evaporate.

Q: My mattress seems smaller than what I ordered, why?

A: On delivery you may find that the mattress is shorter and narrower than the specified size, due to shrinkage during transportation. This is normal in a hand built mattress. Over the first few weeks of use the mattress will assume its correct size.

Q: What is the difference between memory foam and latex

A: Visco-Elastic Memory foam is a man made temperature sensitive form of polyurethane foam that has special additives that create a self-adhesion property for a few seconds after being exposed to a heat source; your body). The foam moulds and supports your body helping you to maintain the correct posture but also enabling natural movement while asleep. Over time, the adhesive slowly releases, allowing the foam to return to its original shape. Latex foam is a natural product that is derived from the latex rubber extracted from rubber trees; it is not temperature sensitive, as memory foam is. It is though very resilient, durable, extremely comfortable and supportive, and is considered the premium sleep surface by most European sleepers. Both are hypo allergenic with anti-microbial properties.

Q: Why is a good mattress is important to children

A: Children naturally require more sleep than adults. To help your children get the sleep they need make sure there mattress is conducive to providing a good night`s sleep; it should be comfortable and supportive and manufactured with a child in mind. Do not give your child an old or spare mattress, if it is not good enough or comfortable for you, why give it to them.

Q: Why use pocket springs?

A: Only used on luxury mattresses each spring is individually housed in a small pocket. They work independently responding to the individuals weight which is ideal when there is a size and weight variations between partners helping to give a better night`s sleep.
